A Little ABout Me

I live here. I started Romow here.

If you're in Forest Lake — or anywhere in the north metro along
35E — you're in our backyard. Literally.

Forest Lake is where I watched my neighbors spend their Saturday
mornings on riding mowers while their kids played in the backyard
without them.
It's where I figured out that the math on robot mowing works —
and that the time savings matter even more than the math.
Forest Lake yards aren't simple. The older neighborhoods near
downtown have mature oaks that scatter GPS signals. The newer
subdivisions off Scandia Trail and around Comfort Lake run half
an acre or more. The terrain near the lake has grade changes
that a standard mower handles awkwardly.
Romow started here because this is where robot mowing needed to work. And it does.

Why Forest Lake Yards Are Built for Robot Mowing

Forest Lake has two kinds of yards, and robot mowing works well
on both.

The older neighborhoods closer to the lake — streets like Lake
Boulevard, Broadway, and the blocks around Forest Lake Elementary
— have mature tree cover, root heave from decades of Minnesota
frost cycles, and lots that were platted when nobody anticipated
a riding mower. These yards need LiDAR navigation, not GPS.
The Navimow i2 LiDAR uses those old oak trunks as navigation
anchors. Dense canopy isn't a problem. It's an advantage.
The newer subdivisions — Scandia Trail, Everton Avenue, the
developments around Comfort Lake and Shields Lake — run larger.
Half an acre to over an acre is common. These yards are what
the Navimow H2 LiDAR and X4 were built for. Open lawn, clear
sky, occasional slope from the glacial terrain. Network RTK
handles the positioning. The mower handles the rest.
Either way: Forest Lake winters mean frost heave. Wire-free is
the only mowing system that survives Minnesota's freeze-thaw
cycles without a spring recalibration.

That's why Romow is wire-free only. And why we started here.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you actually serve Forest Lake or are you based somewhere else?

I live in Forest Lake. Romow is a Forest Lake business — we
won the 2025 Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Business
Innovation Award. When you call, you're talking to your neighbor.

My Forest Lake yard has a lot of old trees. Is that a problem?

The opposite, actually. The Navimow i2 LiDAR uses tree trunks
as navigation reference points. The older neighborhoods near
Forest Lake and the lake shore — with mature oaks and heavy
canopy — are exactly the environment LiDAR was designed for.
We've installed successfully in yards that GPS-based systems
couldn't handle.

I'm on a larger lot off Scandia Trail. What model works for my yard?

Lots over half an acre in the Scandia corridor typically run
well on the Navimow H2 LiDAR or the X4, depending on slope and
terrain. We do a free on-site consultation before recommending
anything — every yard is different and we'd rather walk yours
than guess.

Do robot mowers work in Minnesota?

Yes, robot mowers handle Minnesota's variable weather, grass types, and yard slopes. They cut rain or shine and restart easily after winter storage.

How safe are robot mowers?

Robot mowers are safer than push or riding mowers. Sensors, auto shut-off, and obstacle detection protects kids, pets, and property.

What is the maintenance like?

Minimal. Just clean the mower, replace blades a few times per season, and keep the charger clear. No gas, oil, or spark plugs required.

How much time will I save?

Most homeowners save 50-70 hours a year. Robot mowers cut daily in short cycles, so you never spend weekends pushing or riding again.
